AFTER struggling for most of January, Alresford Town got back on track with two home victories in the space of four days, beating Baffins Milton 4-3 on Saturday and Newport (IoW) 3-0 on Tuesday.
These were games the Magpies should have won – both the opposing sides are in the bottom half of the Sydenhams League Premier Division – but a clean sheet against the Islanders was particularly pleasing, with Adam Pearson having a dominant game in Alresford’s central defence.
Sam Burt put Alresford ahead after just three minutes and, not long after, David Ompreon came up from full-back to double the lead with a scorching long-range drive.
The game was in the final minute when Adam Cripps added a third for the Magpies.
On Saturday, Alresford snatched all three points, thanks to an own goal deep into injury time.
It looked plain sailing for the Magpies as goals from Ompreon and Craig Harding gave them a 2-0 lead at the interval. Baffins Milton pulled one back, only for Cripps to make it 3-1. But Baffins gamely levelled the match at 3-3 before the Magpies got their lucky break in added time.
• Alton’s Division One game at Christchurch was postponed on Saturday, due to a waterlogged pitch.
