A BRILLIANT round of 65 – including an albatross – by Farnham Golf Club’s Tom Spreadborough in the second round of the Blackmoor Bowl set up a victory that rocked county captain Colin Roope’s hopes of regaining the Hampshire Order of Merit title he won in 2016.
And Spreadborough saw off Hampshire county player Toby Burden, who shot 71, 69, in a play-off after the Hayling man lost two balls off the notorious 10th tee to hand the teenager victory.
Roope (74, 68), who finished fourth behind Mark Burgess (67, 74), is a former Farnham member and now plays at Blackmoor.
He was hoping for a win to overake Rowlands Castle’s Tom Robson at the top of the Order of Merit going into this weekend’s final event – the Courage Trophy at Basingstoke.

Spreadborough’s fireworks after lunch – defying the blustery wind and rain – saw him hole a bunker shot on the sixth and stiff a wedge for a birdie three at seven.
He then holed a three-iron for an albatross two at the par-five eighth to turn in five-under, having shot a remarkable 30 for nine holes.
He dropped a shot at the 11th, but picked up birdies at 13 and 15 and was heading for a superb 63 until a six at the last took him into a play-off.
