PAST captain Terry McCrossan is seen as something of a lucky charm for Alton in the North Hampshire Seniors Jubilee Winter League.

The club have had a successful history in the competition, but started this year’s event in disappointing fashion.

That was until Terry came out of retirement...

This year some 20 members played for the team at some stage during the season.

Thanks to the great winter condition of the courses comprising the Jubilee League, all the competition matches were played.

Matches are always played in a good friendly spirit.

Alton had started the campaign slowly – then Terry arrived back on the scene.

The new year started with Alton thrashing the-then league leaders Weybrook Park 4-1 – it was their first loss of the season – to move off the bottom of the table.

The next match at Test Valley was a close-run thing but a 3-2 away loss was not without honour and kept Alton’s points margin sufficiently healthy to remain away from the bottom spot.

Just to confirm their new-found form, Alton then beat the eventual league winners Andover in the following match 4½-½ – a great result which moved Alton a further spot away from the bottom position.

Tight matches against the bottom two contenders, The Hampshire and Dummer, closed the season with Alton finishing a creditable fourth in the league.
