LEWES 2, ALDERSHOT & FARNHAM 1
ALDERSHOT & Farnham were unfortunate to come away pointless from a hard-fought and physical battle at Lewes.
A&F hold onto third place in the league and Lewes move up to fifth, just a point behind.
The game began at a fast pace, with two decent teams battling for possession. Strong defending and smooth passing around the back helped the Farnham side settle into the game.
But after some end-to-end play, it was Lewes who took the lead with a tap-in and it stayed 1-0 at half-time.
A&F worked hard to utilise their wings in the second half and a chance fell to Emma Porter who was unlucky not to score with a reverse-stick shot that hit the crossbar.
The visitors would not be denied, though, and equalised when Rosie Hudson struck the ball cleanly from the top of the D and although the Lewes keeper made a good save, Hannah Sprake reacted sharply and lifted the rebound into the net.
A&F fought on, but some close decisions did not go their way and the game was finally decided by a controversial penalty flick awarded at the death.
Lewes converted and took all three points.
