FARNHAM rifle shooter Chris Milton has his sights set on representing Britain at the World Championships after winning the prestigious Varley Memorial Trophy at the 148th National Rifle Association Imperial meeting this summer, held at the National Shooting Centre, Bisley.
The Varley Trophy – donated in 1936 in memory of Major Fleetwood Varley by the English XX Club as part of the club championships – is for the highest aggregate points over the longer distances of 900 and 1,000 yards.
Earlier in the year, Milton, 25, was a member of the GB U25 rifle team that competed in the South African Open Rifle Championships. In the individual shooting championships, he won the overall gold medal and his team won silver, just two points behind the Australian team.
Chris Milton began his shooting career at Guildford RGS under the guidance of David Woolcott who nurtures young shooters at the school with great success.
Milton now moves up to senior level and has already gained England and Surrey caps. As the youngest wind coach in the GB set-up, he hopes to travel with the NRA team to the Channel Islands next Easter to shoot in the Jersey and Guernsey Spring Meetings.
Having recently forked out £800 to replace the barrel of his gun, the young GB shooter is desperate for sponsorship. Anyone interested in supporting Chris Milton can email him at christopher.milton@me. com
